I downloaded the code samples for Pro C#2005 With .NET 3.0 and I undertake the readme actions of placing projects file and other files in c:\ProCSharp etc and when I select a project it states

"The application for Project 'c:\ProCsharp\Chapter28\PCSWebClient1' is not installed

Make sure the application for the project type() is installed

Any ideas?

I did as recommended and no response. Is there anyway to contact the authors as something so simple is being made so complex by them

Contact details for the authors are given right at the beginning of the book in "About the authors". Perhaps you could try there.

Thanks - I did directly contact 2 of the authors and they know they do not work but dont care. It is not their problem they say and anyway they say that it is not their full time job and give the impression that they have better things to do. I think that it is end of story unless somebody knows someone higher up at Wrox. I certainly will not be buying anymore books from the company. Strongly recommend Pro C# with .NET 3.0, Special Edition (Pro) by Andrew Troelsen. Clear, well written with good and clear examples

While it is impossible for the authors to help with every question that comes up, if there's an error, we do our best to get the author for that chapter to help address it. With several authors on the book, it can be hard for an author to help if he wasn't the one who wrote the chapter.
And gmorris, as you can see there are a lot of people here in the forums beyond the authors who will try to help you.

Alright I am assuming, based on the error message you provided, that you are woring with chapter 28. (The error specifically said: 'c:\ProCsharp\Chapter28\PCSWebClient1') Problem is, I can not recreate your problem *IF* I follow the readme files.

For example, if i try to directly open the .sln file from the Archive Visual Studio barks that: "...the project file or web has been moved, renamed or is not on this computer."

Now, if i got into my C drive and create a folder named ProCSharp and then inside of that folder create a folder named Chapter28 and then copy all of the example directories to the C:\ProCSharp\Chapter28 location, this corrects the problem.

So your directory tree for C:\ProCSharp\Chapter28 looks like this:
-PCSDemoSite2
-PCSWebClient1
-PCSWebClient2
-PCSWebService1
-PCSWebService2
-PCSWebService3

I tested this in Full blown Visual Studio 2005, 2008 Beta 2, and Visual Web Developer 2005. Can you provide me with any other information?

a) I only tested one chapter ie. chapter 28. I did not test all
b) I did follow the readme and I believe I do have the following files
c) I have reviewed the SLN file - it did not work so I have tried changing it to absolute paths but this does not work

The error I get is "make sure the application for the project type() is installed".

Thanks now for all the feedback but as noted this is not the correct forum anyway.
