Default Bitmap question

Hi ,

 Iam working with bitmaps which needs zooming in and out.While zooming out ,as the bitmap is getting smaller it is getting displayed on the previous larger bitmap .I want to erase the background b4 displaying the new zoomed out bitmap. Can anyone help.
