Default Assembly

Hi!

I try to use GACUTIL to uninstall my own components but for some reason there is a reference to Windows Installer that will not let go of my component.

I did not use Windows Installer?

Assembly could not be uninstalled because it is required by Windows Installer
Unable to uninstall: assembly is required by one or more applications
Pending references:
SCHEME: <WINDOWS_INSTALLER> ID: <MSI> DESCRIPTION : <Windows Installer>

How do I solve this problem?

I have tried to use Add/Remove Program but my there is nothing there to uninstall that has anything to do with my component.

I'm not sure, but if your component is running in library mode, and for instance invoked by a webservice, then aspnet_wp is locking your dll. Stop your IIS and see if you can uninstall the component.

Maybe you can try to remove the dll manually from the assembly directory:
rmdir c:\winnt\assembly\GAC\name_of_dll_without_extensio n /s /q

Make sure the process that's locking the dll is stopped if you try this.

Hope this helps.

That one worked just fine.

I had at least 10 different versions of the same component and all of them just disappered.

Thank you.
