Default Invalid char in encoding-new asp .net webservice

Hi. I am trying to create a new asp .net webservice. However, whenever I go to new->web site->Asp .Net Web Service, i get an error :
Invalid character in given encoding. Line 1, position 1.

This only happens in c# - works fine in VB. Also, I have tried it with other projects loaded and also with a blank ide.
Fyi, I have VS 2005 developers edition.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Tim

Sounds like the template has become corrupted. See if you can find it and try resaving it as UTF-8 encoding or copying it from a working machine. They are all held in c:\program files\visual studio 2005\etc...
