I want to make a page which registrates a new user.
When this new user submits his/her info, an email has to be send to this user. He/She then has to reply, which would activate his/her account.

Now this is the first time I want to do so (school project) and I have a few questions:
- Do you need a domainname, or is an IP-address also possible ?
- SMTP server is installed, but how must I set it up ?

You can use an IP address if you like e.g. http://66.102.9.104 for google

You can manage the smtp server via the Internet Services manager snap-in control panel -> administrative tools -> internet services manager or internet information services
