Default Internal Server error

Dear all,

When I browse any .asp page in my IIS server, it shows " HTTP error 500 - Internal Server error".

It is a stranger thing to me because I can browse any .html file in in my IIS server. And when I just change the file type of my .html file to .asp file, I can't browse .asp file.

e.g. I can browse terms.html file. When I copy the terms.html file to terms.asp, I can't browse terms.asp file.

Would you please help to advise what happen on my IIS?

I am using IIS 5.1 server.

Patrick

IF you are using Internet Explorer Then
go to Tools-->Internet Options-->Advanced and uncheck "Show Friendly HTTP error messages"

After that try to access your page, and let us know what error messages you are receiving

Well, I don't know exact solution of it. But here is what I do to find out what is causing internal server error. Simply open that page in Netscape browser. Netscape will exactly tells you what is causing this problem.

I'm not sure, but I think this error can also be handled through "Custom Error" Tab in IIS settings.

;;;It is a stranger thing to me because I can browse any .html file in in my IIS server.

This is not strange, html pages do not use IIS. Any machine with a browser can view html pages - no web server is needed.

Have you carried out shahchi1 advice? This will go a long way to solving your problem.

Do people still use NS?

What do you see when you go to:
http://localhost/localstart.asp
