Default running Classic ASP pages on Unix Server

I have uploaded a website that I have built for a client onto a Unix server (dir /httpdocs).

The address is:
http://test.wizardcreation.com.

If you go to that address you will see an error message:

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, wizardcreation@gmail.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Does something have to installed on a Unix Server to run ASP scripts?

Did you develop your pages in an environment as close to your known live environment?

I was asked to write asp pages to run on a unix box however I did not devlop the pages on Windows using IIS and expect them to work with Apache. This is the solution I used:

http://www.sun.com/software/chilisoft/

IMO you should have served the .asp pages using Apache. Yes you can do this on a windows machine. There may be some new product out there, Chilisoft worked for me 2 years ago. I found it that awkward for the next job I just learnt .php - why put square pegs through round holes?

It just isnt that easy...Good luck

Thanks Matt,

Yes, i am developing the site using IIS - i was under the impression that these files would be able to run on Apache no problem. Seemingly not. How do you mean serve the pages using Apache on Windows? How does that differ from using IIS?

Hi Crmpicco

;;;i was under the impression that these files would be able to run on Apache no problem. Seemingly not
Remember this was a while ago, they have probably improved thier tool kit. Its owned by SUN a massive company who probably would have. They have a forum there, I would give it a go.

What I meant was; If you code the pages and server them in development using apache it 'should be seamless' to place them in the live environment. I installed the chillisoft components (PHP, apache, mySql etc) on my windows machine. Stopped IIS and let apache run on port 80 (if you use this method dont run IIS and apache both ob port 80 at the same time) To find the ddifferences (config files etc) have a read of the web site I gave you. If you face any specific problems, I may have faced them and are here to help if I can.

If you decide to learn PHP (not that difficult, a bit like JS in some ways). IMO PHP is a strong language that has mzny many features ASP does not in the way of functions and methods etc (I do prefer ASP and have not done a job in PHP since) Look at the http://www.sokkit.net this is a great tool that allows you to code .php pages on windows. It does work great and it is a seamless move to a unix box

thanks Matt, am i correct in saying there exists software that will convert ASP to PHP for you?

I have coded in PHP before, but like yourself am far more comfortable with ASP and find it a better language - so i coded the project in that!

I am not sure about that, If you find it post the link. I would say not

IMO PHP is a more powerful language. More functions, features and the like however I am much more comfortable with ASP in particular the windows platform its made for. Those open source OS's make me feel stupid and confuse me (I guess its what your used to)

I still liken what I did and what you have done - placing a square through a round hole. Good luck

It is possibly to run asp on a Unix server. You must install Mono with an aspx server on your Unix Server please see http://www.mono-project.com/Guidelin...on_Portability

blanclapin - this is the classic ASP area of the forum, the link you give is .net related. .net pages will run just about anywhere, very different to classic ASP.

I get asked this question alot while consulting. For the purposes of this post, IIS 6.0 can run PHP pages, apache is not neccesary to code on a Win 2003 box.
