Default Detecting a file download

I need to detect the date and time that a users has clicked on a link to download a file.

Can anyone help?

One thing you could do is have the link to your download link to your count script and at the end of that script re-direct to the actual download...you really provided no info as to how you track users etc. so I could be more specific.
