Default Connection to database

I am fairly new to Dreamweaver MX and am having trouble with user authentication. I have the connection set up for my site but when I make a page to authenticate the user, the connection doesn't appear in the drop down list. Can someone please tell me if there is something I did or didn't do? Thanks.

How did you set up the connection? Once you created the connection, dis you test it? Is the database located at the same machine as Dreamweaver?
And is the page with authentication of the same type (e.g. ASP, PHP etc) as your project settings?

Cheers,

Thanks for your reply. I think this is where the problem is. I can't do a secure page in PHP and that is what my project is in. But why can't I make a link to the authentication page as if it were a different project? The connection works because other pages connect to it.

Not sure what you mean with "why can't I make a link to the authentication page as if it were a different project".
Once you create a project in Dreamweaver it is of a certain type like ASP or PHP.
When you create a connection, a type specific connection is stored in a separate include file. This include file can only be used in other pages of the same type. So, you cannot create a connection to an Access database in ASP and use it in a PHP. Likewise, a connection to MySQL cannot be used in PHP.

Did you create your connection in PHP? If so, is the web server on the same machine as Dreamweaver? That is, are you using the localhost for PHP and the database?
