Just another issue with templates:

I'm using DW 6.1. When I go to make a new page from a template, I get this nasty error message upon saving the new file:

'Making this change would require changing code that is locked by a template or translator. This change will be discarded.'

Despite this, the new page seems to save ok. I've searched on this error, and there is quite a bit out there regarding it. It is a known bug in DW, even in 7.01.

Just wondering if anyone here knows anything more about it. Any possible work arounds?

Apparently relatively positioned objects can cause this problem. I have a couple of these on the page. Any help much appreciated.

Although the problem doesn't seem to be catastrophic, I'd rather not expose other staff to it.

I was just mucking around with the templates, and came across something interesting.

I deleted the Dreamweaver date property: 06.12.04
that I had onthe template, and what do you know, no more error message.

Is there any way around this? The date feature is very useful, because I had it set to update on save.

Hi there,

This is a known issue in Dreamweaver and it has been around for quite some time.
It occurs at various times, in various settings and it's hard to impossible to really reproduce it every single time.
Fixing the date property may solve the problem for now, but I wouldn't be surprised if one day the error came back.

Over the past few years I managed to live with this error. Whenever I am going to make a big change to a template based page (add server behaviors for example) I save the page. Whenever I get this error, I undo my changes, close the page and reopen it again. Usually, I can then do what I wanted to do without the error.

I think this bug has been mentioned on a lot of public MM forums, so MM should be aware of it. Apparently, they haven't found the cause of it. So, if you have a sequence of steps that can reproduce the problem every time, maybe you can help MM fix this problem once and for all.
