Default Using Flash buttons in Dreamweaver MX

Hi all,

Right now, I am working on a site in Dreamweaver called The Terragen Vault This site showcases all of my best landscape artwork that I have done in Terragen (a landscape authoring program). I've got the site layout pretty much how I want it to look and now, I just need to make the needed changes to some pages inside the website.

Here's my problem:

I've got a ton of Flash buttons inside The Terragen Vault that serve as a means of navigation around the site. Last night, I tried moving all of the Flash buttons to the assets folder inside the main site folder (Dreamweaver puts them in the main site folder by default). Everything seemed fine up until the testing phase inside Internet Explorer. When I clicked on either of the buttons, I came up with an error message saying that the page couldn't be found. Is it possible to have the Flash buttons moved to the assets folder or should I keep them out of there?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,

Ben

Hi Ben,

What Assets folder are you referring to? Did you create that one yourself? The Assets panel that Dreamweaver uses is just a "conceptual folder", in that it allows you to look at your assets at different locations from one convenient panel.

Did you upload the Flash Buttons to your Remote Server and / or Testing server? If you move stuff around, but don't Put them to another server, you'll get these nasty 404's.

So, right click your Assets folder, choose Put and all your Flash buttons should be copied to your Remote Server.

Cheers,

Imar

Hi Imar,

I'm specifically referring to the assets folder that I created inside the site. The assets folder is just so I can keep my site organized and uncluttered along with having all of the images in one place.

I have not uploaded any of the site to a remote server yet due to the fact that I feel that there are some changes that I want to make to the site as far as the site layout is concerned. By the way, I forgot to mention that I have all of the Flash buttons in the main site folder, not the assets folder that I created.

I will try your suggestion when I get around to uploading the site.

I have another question. Wouldn't it be easier to just highlight the site folder and go from there? I'm used to putting the entire site out all at once when I've made necessary changes

Yeah, sure. That would work equally well. But it all depends on the size of your site. If you have a large site, and you know that just the assets folder has changed, it's quicker to just Put that folder, as there is no need for Dreamweaver to figure out which files have changed.

Cheers,
