Do Wrox people monitor the book forums?

There is an increasing number of questions seeking enlightenment in the "Professional SharePoint 2007 Development" forum, but precious few answers.
Do any of the authors monitor these forums, or are we on our own?

Yes, some authors do monitor forums. Some are better at it than others. I just answered over in the book forum too that I will try to get the authors re-engaged in the forums.
