Hi there,

You can download Visual Studio trials from here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/aa570309.aspx which allow you to try the product for up to 90 days.

If you want to use a free version of Visual Studio. use the Express editions. All other versions are commercial products.

Cheers,

Imar

Thanks a lot for your reply!
I have the VCE version too and as VS is commercial I'll work with VCE.
Thanks!

This thread was for VS2008, whereas your (albeit helpul) link sends people to Visual Studio 2010. Microsoft seems to refuse to let you download older versions from them. I had to go hunting for a VSexp2008 version due to memory constrains on my aging laptop.
Am I missing where MS allows you to download older Visual Studio versions?

Hi there,

This page: http://www.microsoft.com/express/downloads/ has a clear, open and accessible Visual Studio Express 2008 tab, so Microsoft is certainly not refusing you to download older versions....

Cheers,

Imar

My bad...

Thank you for your response, and in fairness, my post did say

So I was not certain and welcome the clarification since the avenues I took seemed not to have a clear option for such, like your link initially leading directly to VS2010

But I thank you and continue to be impressed with Microsofts changing attitude toward Open Source, Free products and fostering general interest in learning and using all manner of technoligies with .NET (IronPython comes to mind)

Thanks again for the helpful reply,
LB
