Default Encryption question

I have found code that shows how to encrypt/decrypt a string however I need to do the same to files (image files to be exact) and the examples I have found on-line while they appear to encrypt the file when I decrypt it I have an unreadable file and it is a different size. Has anybody done this before and are you willing to share the code?

Thanks in advance.
