I am new to development and have to design an application that would scan the barcode via a scanner and insert the time of scanning into the database.

I would want to know what should I do to make sure that the application does that without having to press the submit button everytime. The focus has to return back to the text box after the insertion is done.

Also, please guide me on how the scanner works in this frame. I am using VB.NET

Do you have a manual or other documentation for the scanner?

I imagine this would be achieved by hooking to an event that would be raised by the scanner's API. When that event occurs, you can execute whatever code you need (insert value into database) then focus back to the textbox.

You'll have to refer to the hardware documentation for details.

To use the scanner to scan barcode. put a single text box on the page and start scanning, as you scan the barcode it will automatically POST your page. You don't need to add a submit button on the page.
This will work only if you have only one (single) text box in your page.
