Default New to Java

Hi, I'm looking to learn Java, I'm an experienced web designer already but as always looking to expand my knowledge. I'm wanting to look primarily at the web side of Java as it does seem to be a hot language with university courses, however i dont always hear great things. Anyway i was just wondering if anyone out there had any suggestions for good books, preferably by wrox as i favour their style but anything would be great.

Thanks in advance!
Tom

Start from creating java applets that you can embed in your HTML Web pages.Learn about AWT(Abstract Window Tool) and how can you create basic animations in Java by using the Graphics and AWT library.
There is a hell of a lot you can do with Java.If you want to go deeper then you can also work with JSP(Java Server Pages).
Begining Java is a very good book that you will find in Wrox.Although it does not specialise into the web side of Java but teaches you the basics and builds a strong foundation for advance learning of the language.
Wish you best of luck!
