I am new to java. Can someone tell me how to build java program using microsoft visual studio ?

Visual Studio is an IDE for Microsoft supported technologies like C#, VB.net etc. You can use that for J# (similar to Java) but not Sun Java. May be there could be third party plugins support but i bet it's support would be limited.

So i would advise you to use Notepad++ since you are a beginner. After that get IDEs like eclipse @ http://www.eclipse.org. or NetBeans IDE. Both have their own pros / cons.
