Default Help With JDK

Hi I'm trying to learn Java and a book told me to download the latest version of JDK. I downloaded it but I can't seem to find the application that allows me to type in any code and compile it. When I try to open an application, the command window will pop up for a quick second and then close. What is the name of the correct application I need to open so I can start coding? The download I have is jdk-7u17-windows-x64.

Probably the easiest way to do this is with Eclipse.
