Default Current Date

New to java. I'm creating application to pull data from my database.
When I open up my application I wanted to just click on a button to pull the most current data by the date. Can I have the results in JTextPane instead of JTable. Can someone give me example please thank you.

I hope this example may be helpful to do better....

class AppletTimer
    {
     javax.swing.Timer timer;
     String s;
     SimpleDateFormat timef = new SimpleDateFormat("HH:mm");
     //private Launch ll = new Launch();

     //public AppletTimer(final Applet ap)
     public AppletTimer(final JTextField tf)
         {
             timer = new javax.swing.Timer(1000, new ActionListener() {
                 public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
                 s = timef.format(new Date(System.currentTimeMillis()));
                 //ap.showStatus(s);
                 tf.setText(s);
             }
         });
         timer.start();
     }
}
