Default how to dnd window like in IDE interface

i have now a question about the Funktion of some IDE interface,
in eclipse ,netbeans we can drag a window like "outline","package explorer" to somewhere in screen and it wil be combinated with another window that stand originally there. and they look like in a "TabbedPane" with same size.
i want to konw,how can i make it like that, whether there is a Api for that?(maybe it is implemented with internal frames?but how can they combinated eachother?)
