Default Urgent JTextArea help

My JTextArea must only allow uppercase characters, that is the user may type lower case, but all characters the user types must always be displayed as uppercase in the JTextArea. How can this be done?

I was thinking of adding a key listener and converting keystrokes to uppercase as they occur, but that doesn't really sound feasible to me.
