No more Java Applets for me...
I had several Java Applets on my web pages for years. About a year ago, I bought a new PC with Windows XP (service pack 2) and noticed that when I opened a page with one of my Java Applets, a rotating star type preloader would go round and round for several seconds before the Java applet finally opened. I now Windows XP has its own program that runs Java applets and no longer loads Sun Microsystems version on new PCs (due to big law suit by Sun versus Microsoft). With the Sun Microsystems program, the applets load fast like they used to, but I don't think is very practical to expect my Web customers to install Sun Microsystems program when purchasing my product, I think they would just move-on. I also noticed my sales had fallen off a lot after Windows XP came out and it may be just in my head but I think it even got worse after Service Pack 2.
I go to my local library to check my Web page and they did not have Windows XP and I also was running Windows 98 and Me so I didn't notice the slow running of my Java Applets for a long time. My library just recently installed Windows XP (SP2) on all their computers and I noticed the slowness of the Java applets there as well.
I have sense replaced all my Java applets to JavaScripts... No more waiting for items to load.
Anyone else experienced this?
