Default Fedora install help, errors, says not enough HDD

I have tried to install Fedora Core 2 and 3 on a AMD 700Mhz, 40GB, 256mb computer. When the screen says 'Transferring install image to hard drive.... this gets only half way and errors out saying that I do not have enough HDD space. I have tried the follwoing:
1. three differetn hard drives
2. ran a disk wipe on the HDD's
3. manually partioning
4. Manually partioning to only have 7GB partions.
5. Choosing the remove all partions option
6. I have checked the discs, I even redownloaded and reburned them.

Please any help!

hmmm...

Could your cd drive be faulty ?
Could your IDE cables or sockets be faulty ?

I personally haven't had any probs bunging fedora onto anything. It might be worth trying a windows install or an install of a different distro, if that works ok, you can probably rule out hardware, and start quizzing the fedora lists...
