I don't think an opinion on the best Linux distribution is appropriate. That's the kind of thing that'll start a flamewar.

Some common distributions are: SuSe, Umbuntu, Gentoo, Fedora, Red Hat, Knoppix. Google is your friend.

Regards,
Rich

The best website is [http://www.distrowatch.com] you can find more options and select the one suits your hardware and requirement.

Wish you a Happy New Year

The SUSE and Redhat have their own open source projects online. The SUSE linux 10.0 is distributed and called itself the "Mercedez" linux, I think they might try hard to write lots of packages to make the system smart.

The fedora core 4.0 is the latest stable release in year 2005, and it has a trial release on core 5.0 recently. I just have my fedora core 4.0 installed.

Both of them are not bad for starters, and they all have a wide range of hardware support, which is really important to me.

all a matter of opinion, I prefer LFS or Centos depending on what I am doing.
