Default killall -9 apache-perl slow server at the moment

The server is running slow right now. I have this command i've seen before:
killall -9 apache-perl
will that safely kill all apache processes?

Not sure what effect it'll have, don't want to bring the whole thing down :-)

It'll kill (brutally!) any process that's called apache-perl. So people who are halfway through downloading a page will just have their connection die and so on. You probably need /etc/init.d/apache-perl stop
