I like Beginning Fedora Core (Wrox Press). It's not an exhaustive overview, but is a suitable introduction.

I really can't speak for that, I'm not in India.

Linux is a name (trademarked by the creator of Linux, Linus Torvalds) encompassing a whole slew of independently created distributions that use the open source Linux OS kernel. I'm quite sure I've grotesquely oversimplified that, and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. So regardless, there is no place to get "Linux", but there are plenty of places to get a flavor of Linux.

Some of the more common are: SuSe, Umbuntu, Gentoo, Fedora, Red Hat, Knoppix.

I'm most familiar with Fedora, personally, which is made by a group associated with Red Hat. You can get that distribution from http://fedora.redhat.com/

HTH!

Regards,
Rich
