Default FreeBSD 5.1 no loopback configured

Just installed FreeBSD 5.1 Release on my Toshiba laptop, and noticed that lo0 wasn't configured by default. How dumb is that? Had to do it manually. Hasn't this sort of thing happened before? Why isn't there a forum where rhetorical questions like this can get asked?
