Default Redhat won't install

Cannot install Redhat 9 from CD onto my AMD K6. The final error msg is something like "this system is not compatible with this release of Redhat"
What's going on? Nothing in the "Redhat is easy, this book and 2 disc set is all you need" led me to believe that it would A) reformat enough of my HDD so I no longer have Windows and B) Fail to instal at all because of compatibility problems. Can't even FDISK now because I no longer have windows

sorry to hear your troubles.

there are a few options you would need to select in order to multi-boot. I think you must have selected "workstation" or "server" instead of "custom", which would use your entire hd.

what you can do now is to reinitialize your mbr with a dos boot disk. boot to dos, then type "fdisk /mbr" without the quotes, of course. this will put your mbr back to where you had it before. The next step would be to start fdisk and delete the non-dos partitions as well as the dos partitions.

Then you should decide if you want to still install linux. If you do, then make your partitions here that you would like to use for windows and dos, if not then just make a regular primary partition with all available space. I would recommend that you do some googleing to find out some "walk through" sites that will take you through dual booting.

I know that it is painful now that your pc isn't working at all, but all I can say is that linux (or unix for that matter) is an os where you need to know what you are going to do before you do it, but well worth it once you know, depending on what you're looking for I guess :)
