Default Forum explanation and purpose

We want Wrox’s p2p forums to be useful and beneficial for all users. We also want them to be accessible for all users. In the 18 months since we began running these forums, we’ve resisted using any active pre-post moderation of forums except for administrative forums.

But, because of the great number of newer programmers coming to these forums, and because we’re seeing many posts that really don’t qualify as “professional” or “advanced” posted in the professional level forums, we’ve heard from some of our more advanced users that some of the forums are less useful than they could be.

So, on a trial basis we’ve created this moderated forum for professional level PHP questions. The main technical moderator is a p2p member, not a Wrox employee, and an experienced PHP developer. We may solicit and promote other moderators as well to help him with this.

If this is successful, we may add additional moderated forums on other topics to give more advanced programmers forums where they can discuss advanced topics. However, the unmoderated forums will not be going away. This moderator trial is an addition, and shouldn’t take away from any of the other forums.
