I am new to both technologies and have a question.

I have a small very MySQL DB with a single table trying to generate PHP and HTML code to display the table in a browser for a proof of concept. The problem is that I do not see any display nor any error messages in the browser when I run the code. I am copying examples from different sources in hoping that something will trigger a result, but so far no luck.

YOu should save the file you have made in *.php (php extension), do not save with *.html;
But, can you give me the code of the file you have made ??? Also the name of the file...

Have you installed PHP and MySQL?

If so, call the PHP code with error handlers like this:

mysql_some_operation(params) or die(mysql_error());
