Default connecting to MSDE server

I can't seem to connect to the MSDE SQL server as described in the Beginning C# book. I always get the SQL server does not exist or access denied. I installed the .NET framework as well as VS both are suppose to include the MSDE server. How do I know if the server has in fact been installed and started ?

when the DATALINK properties window comes up

server name is the computer name I assume

then Windows NT integrated security is chosen

when I try and serch for database name I get the error

thank you

steve

You should have a small icon in your systray that looks like a computer with a green or red arrow on it. The grren arrow means the msde is running, red means it isn't, if you do not have this icon, chances are, it isn't installed. Just an fyi, msde comes with all copies of office software. its on the install cd
