Gotta agree with aas TOAD's a really useful tool & makes the job a lot easier..
While we're on the subject, what does anyone think of Oracle Designer?

Don't think, do!

I think: any tools is a good for decision of specific tasks.
Personally I have got used to design with the help of living commands SQL, therefore to me is closer TOAD. But with ORACLE Designer I work too, but it is more for creation of business-logic.
