Default Getting rid of click sound for refreshing frame

I have a frame that refreshes status information every 3 to 10 seconds depending on a bandwidth setting on some of my PHP pages. When viewed in explorer it makes a click sound:( Any ideas on how to disable this from happening with my pages? It's driving everyone nuts including me now that I know it's happening.
Thanks,
Cordel

Hi there,

You can't disable the click from your page, as it is a browser setting. You can, however, change it on your machine if you're running Windows. Look in the control panel for Sounds and Audio Devices (or something similar). Scroll down till you see Windows Explorer | Start Navigation. Set the sound to [None] and it will be gone.
Note that this also applies for any link you click on, or any other "Navigation" action you perform.

Cheers,

Imar

Thank you Imar,
How about another way for me to display the same information that updates at a time that I choose that will not produce this click. I wouldn't mind turning the feature off in the registry (already have) but I don't know that every one useing the page would. Any one got any other ideas?

You can also look into Macromedia Flash..
I know it can be done with Flash, but I don't know how to do it.

Obviously it would involve making a Flash movie with whatever information you'd like to be displayed and then connecting to the server via Flash ActionScript.

Sorry I couldn't give more details.. you can try the Flash forum or search google for some Flash tutorials, lest someone else on this forum knows how to do it that way.

Another alternative could be a Java applet.

Both methods are embeddable in the webpage itself.

There's no way to do it with pure HTML/JavaScript without the clicking sound.

Personally, I wouldn't be bothered with this too much. If people find the click sound irritating, they'll turn it off themselves (it's one of the first things I do when I install a new Windows OS) as they are likely to be irritated on every page that "clicks".

You can of course include some text explaining how to turn it off or follow the suggestions Rich made.

Cheers,

Imar
