Default indexing and searching html using PHP+apache+Linux

I am a freelance webdeveloper from india.I would like to know what is the equivalent service in Linux as that of index server in Windos. people use to search html documents using ASP and MSindexing services how i can incorporate the service available in linux+apache+PHP.
Please some post a reply.

You could try taking a look at PHPDig: http://phpdig.toiletoine.net/

The author isn't actively maintaining it any longer, but it's still an excellent piece of work, well documented, and there is an active messageboard.
