Default Can i use Like Keyword for string search purpose

hi every one i have a question about LIKE keyword and it is that can i use LIKE For searching string in database.

You can... Look for LIKE operator in Books online for more help on that.

thanks for your replies
i like to search my DB table for a column that fit in a specific criteria but some times it is happen that between two words spaces occurs more than once or when type space and both search text and table column and i think i need in both of them first i convert delete all of extra spaces and left only one space and in search text too.
can you can i can use other ways to do this

You got to parse through the string to see if there are consecutive spaces within the string and eliminate/trim that to single space and then pass it on to LIKE operator.
