Default Error installing SQL2000 Eval

Hi everyone, nice to have the old place back (even if it doesn't work the way we want it ;))
Anyway, I'm trying to install 2k eval as a named instance on our dev box (NT4 sp6), we already have SQL7 installed and I need to keep that intact for the time being. Problem is, I can't get past the 'Installing MDAC' message - it keeps bombing out with 'Error installing MDAC components (-1)', which sounds rather like a GPF style error message i.e. devoid of useful meaning. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on this?

Cheers,

Chris

Have you tried installing the MDAC separately? (either off the installation CD, or by downloading the latest MDAC from http://www.microsoft.com/data/)?

Cheers
Ken

Thanks, that did the trick - eventually. I had to trash a couple of bits of the registry before I could do anything :) Apparently, windoze leaves entries indicating install errors for MDAC, so if you try to reinstall, it's a good idea to delete the keys here first:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Setup\Exception Components
