I'm new to the forum, and a beginning programmer. I'm a college student majoring in MIS and minoring in CS, and I'm working on a basic program for a project that I'm struggling with. I was hoping someone would be able to help guide me in the right direction.

I'm working on designing a simple windows application with circles for each pin on a serial port. These circles will change colors when a pin is fired. We will be plugging the serial port into a micro-controller and manually inserting wires to fire pins individually.

I have learned how to read strings from a serial port in VB2005, however I'm still lost as to how I would read the pins individually.

If anyone has any advice as to what techniques I can use to do this, I would greatly appreciate the help or guidance!
