Default Install visual C++ over express

I have visual C++ 2005 express 2005 on my PC and platform SDK (R2)
Reading Ivor Horton's book "Beginning Visual C++ 2005" I found out that express is not good enough (no MFC) and would need the real version which I ordered.
Question: does anyone have experience replacing the express version for the standard version. Is it just a matter of de-installing express and installing standard or are there precautions I have to take to make it all work ok. any mine fields ? I suppose I should leave the platform SDK alone.
