Default protecting xml files (content)

can somebody help me!

How can xml content and files themselves be protected from
direct access, when they are on the web server.
Should I encrypt them???
Is there a better way???

please no theory! I need explained text with CODE!
Something that I can apply into my xml based website, and that xml
content cannot be raw viewed(edited)!
