Default sql server by default??

Hey All,
Im working through some tutorials that implement a user identification method. It would seem that by default a .mdf database is created in this process. Is it possible to NOT use sql server? Can I tell visual web developer to use a flat file or an oracle database instead?

Thanks
Jeremy
