Well,
u have VS 2005 !!!
In what is ur existing project made??? 2002/2003
in any case when u click on the solution file(.sln) or project file(.csproj or .vbproj) the VS IDE should ask u that whether to convert that particular project in VS 2005 giving an ERROR. all u have to do is to click the ok button and relax !!!

the sln. ur tryin' to open is of 2002 or 2003 ???
b'coz if the sln. is of vs 2005 and still ur not able to open it in ur vs 2005 then do the following :
Go to ur IIS Manager, Expand ur Web Sites tab, then Right-Click on ur Default Web Sites Tab, Select ASP.NET Tab.
There u will get a drop down for ASP.Net Version.
If 1.1 is selected then select 2.0 and try again.
if itz still not working then try selecting all the 3 optionz over there(1.0, 1.1, 2.0)

Thanks again dagad,
The project is made on VS 2005 and I've chened that but sitll tha same problem. Do you think that happens because I have both - VS 2002 and VS 2005 installed on the same machine. I started to think about copy paste all the code and stuff in new projaect made by my, hoping that finally is going work.

Oh my !!!
u have both 2002 and 2005 installed on the same comp. !!! itz going to consume a lot of memory of ur COMP. making it slow.!!! if u intend not to use 2002 then u can uninstall the 2002 IDE let the framework 1.0 be in ur COMP.!!! having two frameworks in one PC is not an issue but having two IDEs surely is !!!

the problem is .Net is Backward Compatible and not Forward Compatible. If u try openin a 2002/2003 proj. in 2005 it will work. but if u try to open 2005 proj. in 2002/2003 IDE it will give u exactly the same error u mentioned above!!! the problem is that when u click on the proj file then 2002 IDE is Automatically taking it!!! and hence ur error!!! just try one thing .
open ur VS 2005 IDE click on file menu, then click on open project. after that browse to then desired proj file and click on open!!! i think this should work. if it doesn't, then uninstalling the 2002 IDE seems to be the only option. But Still i will luk for some other way and post it here again.

Regards
Vinod
