What HTTP server are you installing PHP on?
What steps did you preform to install PHP on that server?
Most of us don't have the book, I actually just sold my copy. Walk us through what you tried step by step.

Also, some servers require that you restart them in order for changes made to take effect.

I'm using IIS as my server running on windows 2000 pro.
1)copy all .dll form the dll subdirectory to system 32
2)amend the php.ini
extension_dir = d:\php\extension ; directory in which the loadable extensions (modules) resides

and delete away the semicolons before extension=php_gd.dll and save it
(all my work are stoed in my D drive)

Uh, you haven't mentioned anything about configuring IIS to use PHP. Try reading here:

Have you restarted IIS? Are you getting any errors? Did you set the permissions properly to allow your PHP file to be read by IIS?

Take care,

Nik
