How are you opening the application? Through IIS with the supplied installer, or directly in Visual Web Developer?

Does your machine have a local copy of SQL Server Express 2005 installed?

Thank you for the replied.
I open this through Visual Web Developer I have both sql express and sql 2005 installed.
The database doesn't look want to connect. Always closing down on me due to user instance.

This error may be caused by the fact you installed SQL Server after you installed Express? Maybe this helps?

Other people have described other symptoms and different fixes, so you may want to Google for "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed. " and see if that brings anything new up....

If just install the visual studio completely you will recieve this error, To solve this problem u need to install the microsoft SQL server which is another CD. that is the resean that you cannt access the .mdf file and you will get this error message "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed."
