okay message on its way thanks.

the criteria "1" was an example as this is a variable parameter.

Instead of:

if it was:

at what point would I create and insert this variable?

That would depend on where you get the variable from....

would be a querystring parameter passed (in the CMS application case) from Content Type i.e. @contentTypeID

so I could have "SELECT * FROM Category WHERE ContentTypeID = @contentTypeID"
