Default Simple header question

Hello:

I created a gif with the same size as the Header gif: 780 by 184. In the css for the templatemonster I substitued my gif. However when I ran the program (I am using the chapter 2 sample download), my gif did not go all the way to the right and it seemed like part of the original header.gif of the templatemonster was filling in that header section on the right. How did that happen? If I subsituted my giv for that one in the theme css why would it still be there?

And when I use the header.gif instead of mine, why does it appear wider on the web page than mine when they are both the same size?

Also what is the purpose of the header slice? Why is there a header1 and a header2 in the css and what affect do they have?

As someone new to web design (I have been spoilt by vb.net windows forms), not using the controls to design the page makes it very hard to see what is actually happening. Neither the design mode nor the source mode gives any indication of what is going on. So I apologize for these simple questions.

Thanks
smHaig

Well, I figured it out myself. The headerslice is used to fill in that additional space.
