Nope it stil doesn't work, the error code returned was HTTP Error 425.It says the two(c:\inetpub\wwwroot\WebApplication1 and http://localhost/webapplication1) need to map to the same server location.
I have changed the harcoded ip address to unassigned(from iis web site) and the path is the same i.e. c:\inetpub\wwwroot.
What to do now...thanx a lot for precious help???

Here's something you can try. Not sure if it works, and it isn't supposed to be like this, but try this:

1. First, absolutely make sure that the root of localhost (the Default Web Site) points to C:\Inetpub\wwwroot on your local machine.

2. Create a new folder in C:\Inetpub\wwwroot and call it MyNewApplication.

3. Open up IIS, locate the folder MyNewApplication under Default Web Site, right-click it, choose Properties and click the Create button. This will change the folder MyNewApplication into a Virtual Directory

4. Go to VS.NET and start a new ASP.NET Web Project. As location, type in http://localhost/MyNewApplication

If the two still don't map, then I don't understand what is going on. It's supposed to work like this.

Maybe some background software is messing with your head? How about a firewall? How about service pack 2 for Windows XP???
