Default WSAT

I'm running win8.1, vs express 2013, sql 2012. My account is the sole & admin account on my machine.

the try it out on pg 614, I run the command prompt as admin (explicitly) & starting iis express seems to work(?). I get 2 "registered" replies but nothing stating IIS Express has started, like figure 16-16 shows.

when I punch in the url, WSAT doesn't ask me for credentials but instead tells me "An error was encountered. Please return to the previous page and try again. " (in IE & Chrome).

The IIS window is logging each get request.

I created a static page in the root of my site: index.html & then tried to access http://localhost:8082/index.html.

I get a 404 error

Quote:

Hi there,

Can you post the exact commands you're running to start up the WSAT and browse to the site? And can you also post the output of the command window, or a link to a screenshot showing the command window?

Cheers,

Imar

I just tried it with your commands (which are identical to those in the book) and I am seeing a different command prompt, probably the same as you do. Looks like something has changed with an update. Did you install the VS 2015 preview (I did, so maybe that explains the difference).

Beyond that, I can access the tool in Chrome but get an error in IE too. Looks like a permission issue. I then ran IE as Administrator (right-click IE and choose Run as Administrator) which seems to fix the issue for me.

Can you try that?

Command prompt, IE & Chrome - all executed explicitly as administrator, makes no difference, I still get the same original error. I've spent more hours today than I care to playing around with IIS & IIS Express to no avail. Do you have any more insight beyond a permissions issue? :(

Unfortunately, I don't. I can consistently make it work with the steps in the book on a variety of machines. Many others have confirmed it works for them too. So, it must be something on your machine; security software, other software using the port, wrong configuration or broken software. I can only guess since I can't see your machine.

Sorry.

Cheers,
Imar

Just run into the same problem. What did it form is removing the double quotation marks from cmd entry. So it looks like:

iisexpress.exe /path:C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319 \ASP.NETWebAdminFiles /vpath:/ASP.NETWebAdminFiles /port:8082 /clr:4.0 /ntlm

Hope it helps.

thanks for the help, it didn't work for me...IIS Express started up with or without the quotes. I still get the same error in wsat.

I just manually created appropriate records in the various db tables.
