Default Chapter 1: Creating Your First ASP.NET 4.5.1 Website

Hi,

I bought this book "Beginning ASP.NET 4.5.1 in C# and VB" by Imar Spaanjaars. The book is based on Visual Studio 2013 for Web and I have Visual Studio 2017 in my computer.

When I try to create a simple website by creating a new "ASP.NET Empty Web Site" I don't get all the expected files in my project including the file Default.aspx. I only get the files packages.config and web.config.

What am I missing here? Is there any installation program that I am missing? I installed "ASP.NET and Web Development Package" with VS.

Thanks,

Robert

Hi Robert,

The definition of empty has changed between versions. In 2013 it meant "not a lot, but still some useful stuff" but these days empty means a pretty much empty web site.

The closest thing in 2017 is the ASP.NET Web Forms Site.

Note: lots of stuff has changed in the last few years, so you'l find lots of other differences between your version of VS and what's described in the book.

Cheers,

Imar

Thank you Imar for your reply. Yes, loading a ASP.NET Web Forms Site solved the problem.

By the way, good job in writing this book. It's been very helpful to me.
