Visual Web Developer Express- Free vs Trial?
I downloaded and installed VWD as part of the WPI application as described on pg 3 in chp. 1. (because I wanted to install dotnetnuke too) When I launch VWD it tells me that I have 29 days left in the trial! What do I need to do to uninstall this trial version and get the free version?
Thanks!

Hi there,
Are you sure it's a trial? Is it not just saying you need to *register* within 30 days (which is free)?
Cheers,
Imar

VWD Express Free vs trial
The splash page says: Evaluation purposes only. Although I didn't see the
"29 days remaining" when I launched the VWD this am. Also, when I was installing the Web Platform installer, it started installing Visual Studio, which was taking forever, so I cancelled it after about an hour - (was only on step
2 of 14) Is there a way to remove the pieces of whatever bits of Visual studio it put on my computer without damaging the software I really want? Or should I remove everything and start all over, and not use the WPI but download just express, SQL 2008 and go get dot net nuke separately. I don' t want to bog my system down with software that I don't need. Advice, please and thanks in advance!

Take a look in the About box (Help | About) of Visual Web Developer. My guess is that you do have the Express edition, but that it wants you to register the software withing 30 days. The About box will show you the actual version that is installed.
In case you need to reinstall:
1. Use the Windows Control Panel to uninstall whatever you don't want anymore
2. Run the WPI again and make sure you choose Visual Web Developer Express edition and other related software (SQL Server)
Hope this helps,
Imar

I would die a happy death if I could figure out what version it is. When I check the help| about as you suggest, the top blue bar says" VD2010 Express.
Below that is the VD logo that says its Microsoft VD 2010 express.
Then there is a text block on the left that says:
Microsoft Visual Studio 2010
Version 10.0.30319.1 RTMrel
followed by copyright info
On the same line, to the right it says:
Microsoft .NET Framework
Version 4.0.30319 RTMrel
copyright info
Then there is a box that says:
Installed products:
Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2010
Security Update for Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2010 EXPRESS
below that there is another box that is labeled
Product Details:
and it says:
Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2010
egads! which is it? VWD or the Express version????or are they they same?
What's the deal with the Visual Studio stuff showing up at the top?
Thanks for your patience, and your help

Technically they are the same. The core files for Visual Web Developer Express edition are the same in the commercial versions of Visual Studio. It's mosly a licensing issue plus the fact that the full version has more features on top of the core program. In case it helps, here's how my About box of the Express edition looks:

Yes, I installed this in a Virtual PC for a training I gave last week.
After a couple of days you'll get a message you need to *register* not buy VWD. It's simply a matter of entering your e-mail address and some data about yourself. You'll then get a key you can use to register the software.
So, yes, I think you're OK.
