Default WebMatrix Beta 2 Anyone?

Has anyone updated to WebMatrix Beta 2?

Before I pull the trigger on this update is anyone have any regrets updating?

Do the authors have any suggestions or opinions?

I have the Beta of WebMatrix 2 installed on a Virtual Machine. Otherwise it will overwrite version 1.0 as side-by-side installation is not supported. It offers Intellisense and a better set of database design tools. You can get those in Visual Web Developer 2010 SP1 (free) anyway. There are a couple of other additions and bug fixes.

Beyond that, there are a couple of things that have been added to the Web Pages framework. The Validation model has been changed, so the examples in the book (Ch 5) won't work in Web Pages 2. Support for differing displays for mobile devices has been built in, and there's a nice Resource management doo-hickey. It's like a very much more grown up version of the script and style helpers that feature in Ch 4 (Reusable Custom Helpers).

At the moment, I don't see anything compelling enough to want to upgrade, and I have experienced a few crashes with the new version.

Exactly what I needed to know! I do however have it (WebMatrix 2 Beta) on one of my laptops, but here at work, I'll stick with version 1 for now. Thanks again!!

Default Book is not compatible with WebMatrix 2 Beta

I'm angry. Very angry with Microsoft.

I have WebMatrix 1.01 installed in a WindowsXp Virtualbox instance, and It works fine. I tried to download version 1 again, but cannot find it.

I installed WebMatrix 2 Beta on another PC, and imported the Site files from the virtualbox. However, I cannot get the webpages to launch in the browser using WebMatrix 2. When I add a new CSHTML file and run it, I get a 404.4 error and it says that "A default document is not configured for the requested URL". The only document that works is Default.cshtml or any file that's in the list (Manage default pages).

That doesn't make sense to me. Does anybody know of a work-around?

And why would you be mad at Microsoft? That makes no sense to me. This is beta software so it's possible that it has issues. Rather than complain, why don't you help Microsoft fixing it by reporting this issue at http://connect.microsoft.com?

That said, you can still download WebMatrix 1. A Google search for "download WebMatrix 1" brings up this link: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl....aspx?id=17278

Cheers,

Imar

I've been working on other things lately so now when I open my WebMatrix 2.00, there's an upgrade message. Is this upgrade to version 3.0? If I upgrade would there be any effect on my code? Is the upgrade worthwhile? Also, there's posts on the web of WebMatrix Beta 3 way back in 2010! Please advise and thanks!

Hi there,

It's probably a notice about the availability of the offical RTM release of Web Matrix 2. For more details: http://www.hanselman.com/blog/WebMat...jsAndMore.aspx

This probably refers to WebMatrix 1, beta 3.

Cheers,
